Is Bing a better competitor to google?

I was amazed when my default search engine in IE changed to Bing without my knowledge. Then I was wondering what it is. Then only I recognized that Microsoft has introduced new(?) search engine Bing. But in first impression it doesn’t look good for me. This is may be because of I used to Google or may be because of it is not actually good. What ever the reason in my opinion Bing.com doesn’t have a good place. I can add the following statements as supporting things to my opinion.

As a usual theory every one knows that users want every thing simply including the url. So if you have a search engine which has some abcdefghij.com then no one will visit your site except from hyperlinks. But the fact is search engines should get the direct hits. Microsoft started Live.com as a search engine I guess before some 4 years back. It introduced some new features something like when you are navigating to the end of the page in the search results further results will be added instead of going to the next page. But what ever it was doing it couldn’t be that much successful. Then Microsoft started Live as a base site for many things. Now www.live.com is successful site by providing many services from Microsoft. I like the skydrive much. So now also simply by changing the name while using the old technologies it couldn’t expect something new.

Users want the service should be more user oriented than considering advertising much. Today I was searching for a phrase “gmail as a tool” in www.bing.com just to see what the results coming out. It displayed much relevent results. That is good :) But in left side of the results, it displayed some results with the heading “related searches”. The displayed things was containing MySpace.com. Please see the screen shot below. No one can understand how the Microsoft’s Myspace became relevant to Gmail. I feel Microsoft consider much about their advertising not in user’s point of view.

This is the screenshot of the search results for your reference.
